International Cancer Research Day

International Cancer Research Day

Thanks to collective support in research, more effective drugs and earlier detection methods are being discovered. This is a sign that we are closer to defeating cancer. World Cancer Research Day reminds us of these advances.

Currently, there are 200 types of tumors related to specific cells and tissues. However, each patient can present up to 700 different types of genetic mutations. This variability makes cancer a complex disease and difficult to eradicate.

Research over the last 50 years has brought great advances. Today we have vaccines for certain types of cancer, treatments that encapsulate the tumor to prevent its spread, and even injections that can destroy the disease completely. However, the effectiveness depends mainly on the patient and the stage of the disease.

The hopeful news that we continually receive in the media marks the beginning of the path to a cure.

New drugs, early detection methods and treatments such as immunotherapy are here to stay. However, further research is needed, and this requires many more resources.

Every year on this date, the "V de Vida" award is given in Spain, which seeks to fund and recognise oncologists who discover new ways to prolong or improve the lives of cancer patients.

Another goal of World Cancer Research Day is to encourage governments around the world to promote policies that facilitate early detection of the disease, access to cutting-edge treatments, less toxic drugs and, above all, comprehensive support for the families of patients.

THE SUN PLACES and our community want to thank the work of those anonymous people who, with their dedication and effort, make this disease possible. We sincerely thank all those doctors and researchers for the passion you put into your profession. We want to be part of this day by giving all our affection and love to all the people who suffer from this terrible disease.
