What an exciting opportunity for opera lovers! Bizet's Carmen is truly iconic and easy to enjoy, even without being a classical music expert. Listening to his famous Toreador March or the Habanera, which, by the way, has a touch inspired by a melody by Sebastián Yradier, can transport us directly to Seville, where the story takes place.
Furthermore, celebrating the 150th anniversary of its premiere and Bizet's life in a place as special as the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, in a setting steeped in musical history, makes the experience even more memorable. It's sure to be an event you can't miss!
The opera 'Carmen' goes far beyond being just a story of love and passion; it is a hymn to freedom, independence, and the strength of women. Carmen, the cigarette girl from Seville, symbolizes the free spirit and the will to live without constraints, confronting prejudice and fighting for her independence, both at work and in love.
The story, based on the novel by Prosper Mérimée and structured in four acts, presents the soldier Don José's obsession with Carmen, a woman who embodies passion and rebellion. The hypnotic and powerful music accompanies this narrative, making 'Carmen' still so contemporary and relevant today, connecting with universal and current themes. A work that celebrates the strength and freedom of women!
The Teatro de la Maestranza invites us to relive this iconic opera, which was last performed in 2021, in performances taking place on June 13, 17, 18, 20, and 21 at 8:00 p.m. Stage direction is by Emili Sagi, and musical direction is by Karel Mark Chichon and Salvador Vázquez, who are leading a production from the Alicante Provincial Council Auditorium.
We will feature a cast of great voices, including Maria Kataeva, Dalibor Jenis as the bullfighter Escamillo, and Piero Pretti as Don José, among others. Furthermore, the orchestra and choir, including the Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra, the Maestranza Theater Choir conducted by Íñigo Sampil, and the Escolanía de Los Palacios, directed by Enrique Cabello, bring exceptional quality to this production.
The theater expresses that they have prepared this performance with the same passion and joy that Seville puts into its identity, making "Carmen" an ambassador of the beauty, avant-garde, and freedom that characterize the city.
Tickets range in price from €75 to €150, and there is also an exclusive preview for those under 30, with a single price of €20, held on June 10th. A perfect opportunity to enjoy a work that celebrates the passion, freedom, and culture of Seville!
