The Pilgrimage begins with a tour along ancient paths near the Guadalquivir, accompanied by an essential element: the drummer and the rhythm of his drum and flute.
The rocketeer guides and summons the stragglers, followed by the brotherhoods with their staffs and flags, creating a bustle of fringes, polka dots and flowers.
The true Rocío is a crucible of intertwined feelings: joy, songs and parties, contrasted with tears, sighs, silence, promises and heartfelt expressions. Parades of covered floats filled with flowers are found in the village of Rocío. The largest pilgrimage in Spain is a spectacular display of colors and joy.
Doing the journey on horseback, by cart or on foot, crossing the marshes and sleeping outdoors is the most popular. On Sunday night no one sleeps, waiting to enter the temple to take the White Dove for a walk. The jump is the moment of greatest fervor, when the people of Almont invade the hermitage, jump the fences and parade the Virgin through her village.
At night, in the camps, there is drinking, singing, dancing. The sound of flamenco guitars and tambourines, carried by the sandy wind, enlivens the night.
Candles, torches and flares illuminate the Sinsins of the Brotherhoods, while thousands of people sing the Mysteries in honor of Our Lady and the prayer is revealed in pearls of love.
From THE SUN PLACES, we hope to see you surrounded by friends or simply people that you meet in the Pilgrimage. We will wait for you.
