There are only 18 days left until Lent and the presentation of the Sevillian Holy Week poster has taken place at the headquarters of the Caja Rural del Sur Foundation, with the assistance of the mayor of the city, José Luis Sanz; the president of the Caja Rural del Sur Foundation, José Luis García-Palacios Álvarez; and the president of the Council of Brotherhoods and Brotherhoods, Francisco Vélez.
Although the Sevillian author has stressed that he does not believe that a painting needs to be explained and that he should speak in all languages, he has entrusted his niece Estrella with the mission of reading some words that he himself has written. "When I was asked to create the Holy Week poster, I was tempted to represent Jesus Christ lying down, but I quickly discarded that idea. I realized that my work had always been positioned on the most serene and enlightened side of life," indicates the artist. For this reason, he decided that in his painting he "should celebrate the luminous part" of the religious festival, that is, "the Resurrection."
The work shows a serene image, full of majesty and sweetness. "This represents the man who is in Christ." His body hardly has any signs of his passage through the Cross, it only shows some minimal wounds on his side and hand, which are already practically healed. "My Christ looks young and beautiful. Young as a metaphor for purity and beautiful because beauty and goodness are the same thing," the artist points out. The Sevillian has highlighted that the image of him looks into the eyes in a "firm and sweet" way. He is a classic Christ like the Baroque and Renaissance people of Spain and Italy "comparable to the Germanic and Flemish ones" bloodied and twisted by pain," according to Salustiano Garcia.
He has included a tribute to only two brotherhoods of the city: the cloth of the Cristo del Cachorro and the powers of the Christ of Love. Although he would have liked to represent all the brotherhoods of Seville.
