The Plaza Nueva will once again be the epicenter of Sevillian literature between October 26 and November 5, where a total of 67 exhibitors will be located grouped in a total of 50 booths. While 54 of these participants are already veterans who repeat each year at the Seville Book Fair, 13 are making their debut in Seville for the first time.
“The spell of reading” is the main motif of the poster for this year's Seville Book Fair. The Andalusian illustrator and author María Hesse (Huelva, 1982) has taken as inspiration - in a poster full of lyricism - the idea of using literature as a basis on which many other artistic disciplines are based. With this starting point, Hesse focuses her work on the multidisciplinary figure of Remedios Varo, a feminine voice of enormous power who, in addition, is once again topical: the reissue of her written work, a major international exhibition in Chicago and numerous articles in the national press they reveal the validity of Varo's figure and work in the world.
The theorist of the surrealist movement André Breton defined Remedios Varo as “a sorceress who left too soon”, which served to forge the driving idea of this edition of the Seville Book Fair: The spell of reading. On the poster there is writing, painting and music, along with his own imagination that lives in the book and emerges from Varo's chest after reading. And, of course, all the characteristic elements of the Hessian style.
Sevillian by adoption, Hesse has worked for the publishing house Edelvives in the production of textbooks. She has also illustra
ted for magazines such as Jot Down, El País Semanal, Fashion & Art, Público, El Cultural, Kireii or Glamour, and collaborated with various brands such as Louise Boutin, Brugal, Compañía Fantástica and Martini. She has published Pride and Prejudice, Frida Kahlo. A biography and her latest work is 'Bad Women', published by Lumen. In 2020, she was chosen as one of the top 100 illustrators in the world by Taschen.
The Fair is also once again betting on the international section, in which the Argentine journalist and writer Mariana Enríquez (Buenos Aires, 1973) will participate.
The Fair will enjoy some of the most prominent Sevillian writers who will present novelties or participate in colloquia, among them, Eva Díaz Pérez, Susana Martín Gijón, Silvia Hidalgo, Elisa Victoria, Fernando Iwsaki, Francisco Robles, José Antonio Ramírez Lozano, Antonio García Barbeito and Félix G. Madroño..
