The start of the marathon will be at 08:30 hours. The world elite athletes will leave first, followed by the sub-elite. The rest of the participants will start the race according to their registration date, totalling around 14,000 runners in this edition.
The race will feature more than 250 elite international runners who will be looking for great times and minimum times for future championships, being the most powerful edition in its history. Of the participants, 2,484 are from Seville and its province, out of a total of 3,282 Andalusians. The Community of Madrid stands out among the rest of Spain with 1,221 registered.
In an emotional event, tribute was paid to those who have made the success of the race possible during these almost 40 years. In addition, the government team of José Luis Sanz has reaffirmed its commitment to maintain the upward trend and the participation records, stating that it is not a coincidence and that the municipal government will spare no effort to ensure that Seville becomes the world capital of marathons. Our goal is to have 20,000 race numbers by 2027." He also highlighted that "in addition to sporting pride, the Marathon generates an estimated economic impact of more than 15 million euros. This has a great impact on the image and visibility of Seville around the world, as evidenced by the fact that more than half of the participants are foreigners."
During the ceremony, led by Canal Sur Television journalists Inma Lago and Ángel Gámiz, a historical review of the evolution of the event and its current importance for the best athletes in the world was carried out, confirming the Seville Marathon as an essential event. Abel Antón, World Champion in 1999, considered the best Spanish marathon runner in history and ambassador of the Seville Marathon, also spoke.
José Luis Sanz, Mayor of Seville; Silvia Pozo, Delegate for Sport and Health Promotion; Evelia Rincón, Delegate for Cleaning, Trees, Parks and Gardens, Public Space, Consumption, Cemetery and Animal Protection, and Ignacio Flores, Delegate for Security and Human Resources, presented the awards. The awards recognise the work of people and institutions that are essential to this event.
The gala also paid tribute to outstanding athletes such as José Carlos Jaenes, the first Sevillian to finish in the inaugural edition in 1985; Vicente Antón and Tina María Ramos, the runners with the most victories in the Seville Marathon; and Roger Puigbó and Verdaguer, the most decorated Paralympic athlete. The five runners who have participated in all the editions were also recognised: Luis Caballero Jurado, Antonio Gelo Colón, Eduardo Silva Proenza, Antonio González Benítez and Julio Manuel Molina Castellano (the latter two from Seville).
The most emotional moment came with the memory of one of the most moving stories: José Manuel Roas pushing his son Pablo's chair across the finish line on six occasions.
The singer from Huelva, Arcángel, a regular runner in the Seville Marathon, closed the gala by delighting the public with his music.
Minerva Lombilla, from CP Hermanos Arregui; Elena Pérez, from Colegio Santa Ana Sevilla; and Encarnación López from the IES Santísima Trinidad de Baeza (Jaén), have been the winners of the children's drawing contest for the Zurich Marathon of Seville 2025.
The awards ceremony will take place on Friday, February 16 at 6:00 p.m. in the Activities Room of the runner's fair at FIBES (Pavilion 2).
